Origin: Kenya
Farm: Kirinyaga, Embu
The Kii coffee factory is located in Central Province, Kirinyaga District, in the locality of Ngariama, within the Gichugu Division, near the town of Embu.
The duties of the permanent staff include weighing the coffee, sorting and grading it, paying the farmers, and handling their claims or concerns. The factory is located at an altitude of approximately 1,600 meters above sea level.
The area has red soils and receives moderate bimodal rainfall of about 1,400 mm annually, with temperatures ranging between 13 and 24 degrees Celsius.
After harvesting, all coffee is delivered to the factory and undergoes the wet processing method. Water is pumped from the Kii River into tanks for pulping and recirculation.
After pulping, the coffee is stored overnight, then washed, soaked, and spread out on drying tables.
The parchment coffee is frequently turned on the drying tables, then sorted and stored.
To ensure efficient processing, the factory has invested in a pulping machine, a recirculation system, and around 20 conditioning hoppers.
